Mathematics at A2A
At A2A, we understand that most primary schools don’t cover the full range of mathematical topics needed for the 11+ exam. That’s why we dedicate the first half of our 11+ Maths course to building strong foundations through topic based lessons. These sessions focus on areas such as fractions, probability, and other key concepts that are often missed in school, ensuring your child is fully prepared for everything they may encounter in the exam.
In the second half of the course, we shift focus to solving worded problems. Unlike standard classroom maths, 11+ questions are often based on real-life scenarios and involve multiple steps. These can be tricky for children who aren’t familiar with the format. We teach students how to break down these complex problems into clear, manageable steps helping them to understand what the question is really asking and how to work through it logically.
English at A2A
Our English programme is designed to prepare students for all three main formats of the 11+ exam: multiple choice, written comprehension, and creative or essay writing.
Each week, our lessons help children develop their reading and comprehension skills through practice with both short and extended texts, modelled on real 11+ exam questions. We also introduce essential exam strategies and cover key topics such as grammar, literary devices, and logical reasoning, all within a carefully structured syllabus.
We know that many children haven’t had much experience with writing long, structured essays or stories by this stage in their schooling. To build confidence and skill in this area, we set regular writing tasks for homework and during mock exams. All written work is carefully marked and annotated using our bespoke assessment system, allowing us to pinpoint specific areas for improvement and help each child develop a more confident and effective writing style.
